People “pushing” their religion

I am not what you would call a religious person.  Yes I believe in God, and I was raised as a Catholic, but as my Mother has pointed out to me for years, I have lost my faith and have fallen away from the Catholic church.  Yes I did, but for a number of reason’s I won’t go into here.

Anyway, what just drives me insane are people who try to “Save me” or get me to “See the light”, in other words, people shoving their religion and their beliefs down my throat.  To top it off, it inevitably is some poor lost misguided schmuck that you work with that is the one doing it! [more]

Take me for instance, I work at a nice place (not telling you where!), but we got a couple crazies their, one in particular that is always talking about God, and religion, and all the crap.  He even gives you books to read, on God, creationism, all that crap.  He just not only pisses you off, but creeps you out as well.  I think each person is entitle to their beliefs, but jeez man, don’t try to force me to see things your way.  I mean when I say I’m not interested, then I’M NOT INTERESTED.

Sometimes they do, leave you alone that is, they actually can respect the fact that you don’t see things their way, so be it.  But sometimes, some people, just don’t get it and just keep at you, day after day after day.

What can you do?  Me, I just ignore them the best I can and move on.  I got enough stuff to try to do, I don’t have the time to try and push my belief’s off on someone else.

An old friend of mine said something to me once that really stuck with me.  He was not a religious person either, and was raised in a Jewish home.  His parents were very religious, but did not try to push their beliefs onto their children, they let their children decide for themselves what to believe and not believe as they got older.

Anyway, one day my friend asked his Father, “Dad, you go to church everyday, pray every evening.  So what happens when you die and you find out it was all BS and there is no heaven?”.

His Dad replied “Well, I look at it this way.  If I’m right and their is a God and a heaven, then I have nothing to worry about.  If I’m wrong and there is no God or heaven, then I didn’t really do anything to hurt anybody else, and only ended up wasting some of my life on something that did not exist, but made me feel better as a person.  Besides, if I’m right and your wrong, your screwed”.

How true.
